Jake Shields gets community service for actions at WSOF 22
Jake Shields was not suspended or fined for a late strike against Rousimar Palhares at WSOF 22. Shields was given a penalty of 50 hours of community service by the NAC for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the fight. Rousimar Palhares’ actions in the fight played a big role in the small sentence.
“I would like to apologize for throwing a punch. It was out of frustration after having my arm cranked too long,” Shields told the commission.
Shields explained how his frustration went far beyond the submission hold as his eyes had been gouged several times beforehand. Shields explained that he had to see an eye doctor after the fight, and how Palhares has been disciplined before for these types of actions.
Shields also explained that elbow and shoulder were torn from the submission and has not been booked for a fight while recovering.
Commissioner Skip Avansino joked at the end of the hearing that Shields should “fight another opponent next time” in order to avoid another disciplinary meeting.
Both Jake Shields and Rousimar Palhares received temporary suspensions for their unsportsmanlike conduct at WSOF 22. Palhares had his hearing pushed to a later date.
